Flicker in the Rain

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I caught this northern flicker on a tree trunk in the rain yesterday. I never tire of capturing these handsome devils. They are very skittish but I managed to get this shot before he took off.

Cropping? Anything?

A fine pose and eye contact, Dave, and the colors look spot on. I’m not sure what you’re using for noise reduction, but I’d consider trying an alternative as many of your images, including this one, seem to have the feathers smoothed to the point of losing the really fine detail and that’s usually a sign of over-aggressive noise reduction.

What a gorgeous bird! Your composition and color here is great. Regarding, denoise, I suggest you consider using the Denoise feature in the Detail panel of Lightroom Classic. It denies well and gives you a slider to increase or decrease the amount of denoise you seek.

Thanks, Larry. I’ve been doing it another way in LR. I’ll try this.

Turns out, that’s what I’ve been doing. Thanks for your suggestion.
