Northern Flicker Showing Off

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I got this capture of a handsome male northern flicker in our very cluttery backyard oak tree. I thought it was worthy of sharing in spite of the distracting environment.

Specific Feedback

Cropping? The big foreground trunk is unfortunate but I decided not to chase it. Mistake?

Technical Details

Z9, Nikon 200-500 lens, monopod, 315mm, ISO 1100, f 8.0, cropped to 1754 x 1251

Great pose, Dave. In the larger version , my eye tends to move past that trunk due to the colorful bird. However a minor crop and a bit of cloning and I came up with this version. I only spent about 5 minutes on it and cleaned up a smudge over the head while I was at it. It’s a little tight, but see how you like it.

VERY nice improvement. Thanks, Dennis.

Hey Dave, great pose here. Flickers are awesome birds. I do like the crop that @Dennis_Plank presented too.

Nice catch.
