Beautiful setting, David. I love that old stump it’s using. The bird and stump look a bit “crunchy” to my eye. Not sure what you did in the way of sharpening, but I think backing off on that and/or contrast/saturation a touch might be nice.
David,
I love Flickers - they are a beautiful bird. And I love this capture. Amazing details you captured especially given you were so “far away.” Well done.
And given that big crop, you’re probably adverse to cropping any more, but I could see a bit taken off L, R and Bottom; there’s a lot of empty space on the right. But heck, that’s ok especially since this was such a prize capture.
REPOST of original uncropped version
Very nice look at the Flicker, David and I like the stump. I like the texture and detail you brought out in the stump and the color you brought out in the Flicker, though there seems, to my eye, a bit of a bluish cast to the bird and stump.
I suppose if you really look hard enough, you could see a slightly blue cast on the image. But I look at things with my iPad Pro, so I don’t always pick up on the casts. Anyhow, thanks for looking.
I forgot to mention that I used a new topaz product on this image. It does a pretty good job of sharpening and I thought the original image which I posted below was a little soft and it needed a sharpening boost. So I’ve been fooling around with this topaz AI or photo AI it seems to do some interesting things to images. I know other people have been experiencing issues occasionally with topaz and I point to Diane is one of those I sent them a nasty gram. I suppose I got back what I offered to them. They had requested some feedback on their program. It’s been a little flaky. At least I think so. If you haven’t tried it, you should. I’m talking about photo AI . It’s a little slow and processing images, but I think it does a pretty decent job on the sharpening and I probably could’ve set some of the sliders a little lower. That may avoid the crunchy look for you. You’re real sensitive to crunchy looks. I’ve noticed that in your evaluations of my images. Not a problem, at least you’re honest.
