Flowing to the Light

The Lowe River is on the South side of the Valdez Bay and is in the shadows of the South mountains. In this scene it’s flowing to the bay in the North and the brightly sunlit mountains on the North side of the bay.

A frosty cold one! I like the leading line and the limited palette. Great detail and looming mountains. If it were mine I might nudge the snow so it was less blue and warm up the reflection in the water just a hint. The contrast might be nice.

Very lovely scene with excellent tonal control, with detail in the shadows and highlights. I love the ice detail in the FG and reflections in the mid-ground water.

Maybe warm the blues a tad, but not much. The whole scene does say COLD!

Gary, it’s a beautiful day. There are so many details here, with the mix of ice and water in the stream, the mist in the distance, the frosty shrubs and all of the layers in the rugged mountains make for a scene that can be viewed over and over again, with pleasure. This captures the beauty that winter offers very well.
