Image Description
Another oldie, but I just came across it again in my archive. Undoubtedly the most photographed, yet still one of the most beautiful birds in Africa… the lilac-breasted roller, here set against the colours of the rising sun…

As we’re ‘driving home for Christmas’ I’ve got my laptop on my knee (no, I’m not behind the wheel!), and I’m uploading a larger version of ‘Flying Colours’. Limited as a laptop screen can be, I hope the photo comes across well and sharp. I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough if it doesn’t
I like this a lot, Ingrid. the bird could be a trifle sharper, but the colors and graphic nature of the image more than make up for that.
I suspect this was supposed to be in Avian, so I’m moving it there. If it was a captive shot, let me know and I can move it back here, but I really doubt that was the case.
Sorry @Dennis_Plank , it was indeed meant to be in Avian, my mistake. @Richard_Sandor , I will try to do that as soon as poss.
Thanks for your comments!
Ok, so at first glance this made me think of a Japanese print, simplistic and colorful. He is quite a show stopper against a gorgeous background Ingrid. And the tails is pretty interesting too. I’m guessing this is a pretty large crop but still lots of detail remains. True, we could always wish for more space on one side or the other but I think he’s good on the left. Nicely done Ingrid!
Ingrid— This kind of photograph is quite unusual and for me, borders on hand-drawn artistry which I also love and appreciate. I have a strong bias toward the symbolic and simple and this image does both: a solemn tree juxtaposed to a beautiful bird in flight! Truly a one of a kind image.
Beautiful composition. Eyes are drawn towards the bird and distance from the branch of tree conveys motion. The only aspect which requires work is sharpening of bird.
Wow, thanks all for your comments and I’m so sorry to only be responding now. I just needed to take the time to look up the photo, and to download it and make it sharper. Hopefully you like the result of my procrastination
