Life in the rookery

Specific Feedback

This behavior went on for about 1/2 an hour. My first attempt the chick blended into the background. I opened the lens for a shallow depth of field, to put the focus on the chick.
How would you have handled this image?

That’s a tough question, Steve. Was the vegetation muddy or did you do something to make it look that way? If it were clean, I’d think the color separation would be enough to help bring the chick out. I like the composition, the poses of the birds and the depth of field, but I’m having a little trouble getting around the background.

Hi Steve, the redo gives a little more pop against the BG. The BG seems so close that any aperture providing DOF on the birds would also bring the BG into play. The color separation on the adult helps to keep the eye on the birds.
