Fog is Clearing

On a visit to Sintra, Portugal fog socked in the entire view in heavy rain. In this image the sun had come out some and the fog dissipated enough to capture the surrounding forest. I appreciate your take on processing this image with whatever explanation you can make about your work flow. Sean, I have been using the TK8 plugin and have benefited from your video guide and tutorials. Thanks. Larry

Hey Larry, beautiful image; I found it fun to experiment with! I took this in a different direction, making it light and airy for fun. I do like your dark and moody take as well.

I finally had some time over the weekend to have a go at processing this image. I find the whole exercise of editing images that I didn’t shoot myself rather enjoyable and because I don’t have the associated memory of shooting the image, I feel freer to take the image in any direction that I feel suits it best. With that said, here is what I did:

  1. I opened the image up in ACR and did some basic edits – white balance, exposure, contrast, shadows, and highlights.
  2. Then in Photoshop, I did some of TK’s LIGHTS Triple Play to add some micro contrast to the light areas of the image.
  3. Next, I brought the image into the NIK Vivaza plugin to give the image some “structure”, and a bit of warmth and saturation.
  4. Next, I brought the image into the NIK Color Efex plugin to add some glow I think it’s called “Glamour Glow” and I feel it can enhance the mood of foggy and misty images.
  5. And finally, I added a vignette to the image – I do this quite often on many of my images.

@David_Kingham and @Tom_Nevesely sorry it took me so long to respond to you. I truly appreciate other photographers thoughtful edits on my images. Giving me your workflow is also most helpful.
The lighter take on the image from you both is most interesting. Many thanks for taking your time on this image.
