Foggy morning at Elkhorn Slough

Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

Photo taken from a kayak in the early morning on a slough that opens to the Pacific Ocean in Northern California. The air was still. No birds flying. It seemed we were all just waiting.

I like the composition, Kent. It might be just a bit tight at the left and right edges, but that’s very minor. The image has a great early morning, waiting for the tide to turn feel. The black and white works for m e in this image, but I’d be interested in seeing what the color looked like as this doesn’t strike me as one of those images that just screams to be done in B&W.

I like the composition, though I could see a bit more room on the left. The black and white treatment adds to the feeling of morning coolness and perhaps some fog.

I like the composition. My eyes initially were drawn more to the crowd on the left and then the right side of the photo, which for me sets the tone for the photo. I definitely like the black and white. My only suggestion would be a bit of a crop on the right side, but not much.

I did the Elkhorn Slough boat tour a few years ago and plan on doing it again, probably later in October or early November. I remember we had lots of fog in the morning and then it cleared. I also remember lots and lots of birds.
