Me and My Shadow

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We spend a few days on the Olympic Peninsula coast near Forks this past week and most of the time there was pretty heavy fog and mist above the water. I was there mostly to try to do seascapes, but couldn’t resist the birds as well. I liked the echo effect of the second gull in this image.

Specific Feedback

I liked the high key effect of the fog/mist in this image, but I’m not sure how tightly or loosely to crop it. The mist messed with plumage detail, so I don’t want to get too close.

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE 200-600 @ 600 mm, tripod with gimbal head, f/7.1, 1/800, iso 3200. Noise reduction with DxO PureRaw4, processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 4640x3440. Taken on October 8th at 9:00 a.m.

Hi Dennis
I think you have it correctly framed, the fog and the brown feathers on the Gull, blend nicely.
Peter

I’ve taken a lot of gull shots (good practice for BIF) and generally delete them, but here I think you’ve captured a fairly unique shot with the fog and shadowy mimic of the subject in the background. Crop looks about right.
