I know your down there.

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Back on Machias Seal Island. Only 16 people are allowed on the Island at any time, so we were divided into four groups and given a stick to raise over our heads to help reduce the impact of the greeting by the smaller Arctic Turn population.
Thank you for stopping by.
Peter

Specific Feedback

The photograph was taken in a heavy fog. At first, I wanted to clean it up, decided to keep the turn in the fog.

Technical Details

Canon R5, Canon 100-500mm, f8, 500mm, +.3EV, ISO 500, cropped by 55% in DXO PhotoLab 8, because of the fog, I used DeepPRIME3 to give the Arctic Turn better detail.

For me the fog distinguishes this (in a very good way) from a lot of clear day tern photos I have seen. I think it is one of your best images. Really like it.

My first thought was to run dehaze, but on second thought the fog adds impact to the image. Good flight pose. Well done, Peter.

A fine image, Peter. I love the angle you got on the Tern, and I do like the fog effect. So how do you shoot and hold a stick over your head at the same time? I hope someone was taking a video of that action!

Hi Jim, Allen & Dennis
Thank you for the comments. I started with a dehaze approach and was not happy with the outcome, so I put it aside. I only went back to take a second look after viewing other photographers’ use of rain, snow, and fog.
The photograph was taken before I received my stick.

Hi Peter, I like the diagonal of the bird and the foggy feel of this image. Sets an interesting mood to the photo.

Hi Allen
Thank you for the comment.
