The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
This image is from the same trip as my prior images from playing in the Oregon coastal fog last month. This has a bit of fog in the background, albeit less than in some of the prior images.
This flirts with the avian category, but I think the egret is adding to the landscape as opposed to the other way around?
Specific Feedback
With the fog the lighting was a bit flat, and I’ve increased the saturation a bit to compensate. Does it look reasonable? Any suggestions on the composition or crop?

Hi John,
Well I for one am glad you decided to post this in landscape instead of avian, no offense Dennis and Allen. This has a serene peaceful vibe that I find very inviting. The processing with the saturation looks perfect for my tastes and I am loving the stillness of the water with the reflection of the egret. I also really like the color palette of the BG shoreline and the trees with the light fog. In fact, the longer I sit and enjoy this image the more I think you have a twofer here. The first as posted and the second of just the shoreline and trees. Anyway you slice it this is beautifully done.
I’m really enjoying this one, John. IT’s very artistic, Painterly if you will. I guess it’s the softness in both the colors and the contrast that give me this perception. The background trees and limbs almost just disappear and the light band of green foliage running across the middle of the image is just gorgeous. I love all the different shades of green. I think the bird really adds to the image. It would have been a good image without the bird but I think it’s a better image with the bird. Placement of the bird is perfect. This is one I would consider framing. Excellent job, john.
Painterly? Yes, almost ethereal. The tones and contrast are wonderful, and I love the egret. He/she adds totally different feel, in a good way, to the scene. The saturation look good to my eye. I have one minor nit: There are two dark spots to the right of the bird not far from the right edge that catch my eye.
You were certainly in a fog on this trip, but certainly not in your creativity. This series has been excellent!

It is almost like looking at a painting. Something that almost would have been the creation of a painter to add all the elements that are there, yet they all came together for you at that moment, even the subtle bubble trail behind the egret (are you sure its not a heron? Seems a little big to be an egret). In any case the soft BG and the more colorful shoreline and the still reflection are just magical. Great work!
This is beautiful. A landscape in its entirety and complexity. Splendid. The colors are perfect, and the egret (I think it is a great egret, Ardea alba, by the color of the beak, the bird that on this side of the pond is called a great white heron but I do not know so well the birds of US) with its reflection is just perfect.
I think it’s a cattle egret, ,Bulbucous ibis. They came to this country from Africa. They used to be rare here but now I see them everywhere. They may be the most common egret in the States. I think this is a fine image but not equal to your previous one.
On that point, we are going to have to agree to agree.
Maybe one of the avian guys can wander through and save us from ourselves, but I’m sticking with @Antonello_Provenzale myself. The yellow bill and black legs fit, as does the longer and thinner, subtly downcurved, shape of the bill. The neck is long and sinuous, as opposed to the stocky neck that Cattle Egrets have. A white morph Great Blue Heron is not uncommon in the Florida Keys, but it would shake up the birding world if it showed up here. It would also have a heavy, straight bill and buffy-gray legs.
Here’s another view of the same bird, a little closer up:
What a calm and peaceful scene. This would work without the egret but with it, it’s elevated to the next level. The bird draws my eye and holds it for a moment before starting to move through the rest of the scene. The foggy background also allows the emphasis to fall first on the bird as it’s bright and sharp, unlike the background. Love this one!
I never poked my head in here, but have to add my admiration for a gorgeous image. And I think the closeup should go in Avian for the appreciation it deserves – it is wonderful! (But maybe clone out the bubbles merging with the bill.)
A gentle ethereal post that emphasises stillness and serene silence with the egret or heron being the main subject and reinforcing that stillness and calm. I like it very much though I might just reduce the exposure just a tad to further reinforce that stillness and silence.
