Hunter

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

When I spotted this Great Egret, I immediately like the pose and the juxtaposition of the two land points, but the lighting was pretty flat. Experimented with lowering the midtones and highlights to achieve this more pleasing image. At Steward B. McKinney NWR, Outer Island Unit, CT.

Very interesting processing, Jim. I kind of like what it did to the egret, but I’m a bit ambivalent about what it did to the two points which look like they’ve been recently burned in this version. The composition is excellent and the water is gorgeous.

Vision and Purpose:
Conceptual: make a try with a B&W version. The picture is high contrast anyway. And consider some cropping at the bottom.

Thanks very much for you observations Dennis. I had wondered about the points myself and I may try some further editing to tone down that burn effect.

Nicely composed, Jim. Those two points add interest. Maybe darken the area above the egret’s back?

Allen, good point and I’ll see what can be done. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your suggestion Armin, never thought about that so will give it a try.
