Foraging Avocet - III

Here’s a third image of the same avocet as my previous two images. Here I caught it feeding on what looks like a cranefly. These birds are deceptively fast when chasing flies and I found that I need a fast shutter speed to freeze any movement. I liked the light and color scheme in this scene and am interested to know what you think.

What technical feedback would you like if any?

Any/all

What artistic feedback would you like if any?

Any/all. This image was taken a little earlier than my previous images and the avocet was a little further out with more space around it. I am interested to know how this compares with my previous images from that scene.

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

(If backgrounds have been removed, etc. please be honest with your techniques to help others learn)
600mm on tripod, 1/2500s@F7.1 (-1 1/3Ev), ISO640. Processed for the web. I felt my original shot had the avocet a little too centered (itt darted a little too fast for me when it went for the bug) and added some canvas in front. I would like to know what you think of the composition.

Probably the best of the three excellent shots. The detail is great and the larger bug adds to the shot. Having more room around the Avocet, I think, does improve the shot and the background blends in nicely with the Avocet (though I did like the colors in the other two).

I agree with Allen. More room all around makes this really sing, Govind. I also prefer the color on the other two images.

Really sweet light and POV. The bug is a big plus because it is sharp and well defined. Pleasing soft BG and FG. If I were to make one change, I would clone away the tan OOF BG blob adjacent to the top of the head. This would be difficult but it would smooth the land water transition behind the bird.

A really fine image and I like the composition. Nice catch of the bug in mouth at just the right moment. Are the oof blobs flies flying below the bird? I’d be tempted to take out some of the ones that more undefined as I wasn’t sure what they were. A stellar image either way.

Thank you all for your feedback.

@Allen_Sparks: You are correct - the oof blobs are flies. You can see some of them in focus around the avocet.

Love this one, because of the reason Adhika mentioned. Nice layering in the image and the surrounding colours match the bird nicely ! Great series . Cheers, Hans

I like this one best too, I think. That large bug in his beak is a nice bonus.

I think this is my favorite of the series, Govind. I like the looser composition and the fly right at the end of the beak is perfect.
