Description

Botswana
We watched this leopard chase the impala into a small wooded area, and take him down. It’s always sad to see something killed, but the privilege of watching natural actions unfold is mesmerizing.
The lepard was keeping a very close eye on the black-backed jackals pacing nearby, hoping for some snacks. The leopard, however, dragged the impala into a tree when he was done, as usual.
I would have preferred a lower angle for some of the shots, but one is prohibited from leaving the safari vehicles, which can be fairly high.
On the other hand, this angle gave a better view of the impala’s eyes and wound, as well as the wet area on it’s neck where the leopard took hold. (Leopards kill by strangulation)

Hi Sandy , you have capturd a natural history moment beautifully . After watching the image, but before seeing the techs, I knew that this was taken with a long zoom. This is one of the cases where I would have preferred a shallow DOF but that was not possible with this lens.
In post production you may try to downplay the BG, it may help.

Hi Jagdeep- yes, the F 5.6-6.3 is one of the shortcomings of the 200-600, but it’s still an excellent lens that I love.
I’ll work on the BG when I have access to my editing tools- in NZ and not home til April 20.

Great image Sandy. Wonderful detail throughout. A softer background may work but I like it as posted.
