The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
This image was taken after a snowstorm in the north Georgia mountains, it was also very cold which led to frost coating all the trees. The layers of the mountains with the early morning warm light and cool shadows drew me to this scene in the hopes of conveying the feeling of cold I felt this morning.
Specific Feedback
This is my first post and any suggestions on composition/processing or any other comments about improving the image is welcome!

Hi Nicholas,
First off welcome to NPN! I think you will enjoy the camaraderie of like minded photographers on this wonderful site. This is a great first post. IMO the cool tones throughout this scene do convey the feeling of cold that you were striving for. The layering with the mountains also works beautifully and has created some wonderful depth to this winter scene. I am also very much enjoying the morning light and the way it has illuminated some of the tree tops; particularly those on the FG mountain. My only suggestion would be to try and even out the darker tones in the two upper corners as they are a little darker than the rest of the sky. I could also see removing that grey/blue band along the top of the frame. Just my opinions of course. I hope to see more of your work as well as your participation by commenting on other photographer’s images. I have found that I have learned as much by commenting as I have by posting.
I particularly like the way the bright frost on the treetops brings out the texture of the trees on the mountains.
My only suggestion would be to perhaps darken the bright strip at the top of the image a bit, and as Ed suggested, remove the grey band at the very top. But it’s just as likely that those ideas wouldn’t work. You can try it and see if you like it.
I think that this is a really outstanding image! I love how the light moulded the forms of the hills, and I like the subtle and limited colour palette. I might be inclined to tone down the sky to better balance the image but all in all you did a really fine job with this.
Welcome, Nicholas. Great first post. If this one’s any indication, it will be a rewarding experience for us all. A really pleasing color palette and composition here. The frosted trees and ridges are real eye candy. I’m having trouble downloading images tonight, so can’t explain visually. I think I would try and tone down the sky a tad and maybe crop off the darker horizontal cloud at the top. Keep em coming.
Welcome to NPN Nicholas! You’re now part of a photographic community where we all help each other. The goal is to have some fun, make some new friends, post images that you’d like help with and also comment and help fellow group members with their images.
This is an outstanding first post. The composition is beautifully balanced and weighted with wonderful layers of hilltop ridges receding into the background providing natural falloff and depth. The early morning light skimming across the tops of the foreground brush and trees is especially nice and the frost from the snowstorm tells of a cold morning. The cool tones also contribute to feeling of cold. I think your processing is very good. It conveys the concept of a cold morning which is what you were after, and the cool and warm tones work well together without being overdone. I think there is too much vignette in the top right and left corners where the sky goes from blue across the top middle of the image to warm and muddy in the corners. The dark band across the top of the image is a little bit distracting but easily fixed.
Looking forward to seeing more of your images and don’t be afraid to jump in and critique other member images. If you have any questions, we are all here for you. Welcome aboard!!!
Welcome Nicholas! I’ll keep it short because the others have already shared what I was thinking. I’ll emphasize that this is a wonderful first image, and I love the layered lines you captured.
My only thought that I don’t think I saw in the above posts is that you might play with reducing the magenta cast just a tiny bit. (You noted that this is early light, but the warmth seems slightly skewed towards magenta.)
Glad to have you on board! Keep them coming, and I look forward to your insights into other member’s photographs.
