Frosted Tips

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Upper Michigan remains snowless into the new year. This is the first time since 1961 this has happened. Although the days have been warm and rainy the temperatures dipped into the low 20s on December 30th leading to hoar frost settling over the landscape.

Specific Feedback

I don’t usually work in flat light but the foggy overcast sky of the day worked well with the frost. I purposely chose a shallow depth of field and focused manually.

Beautiful image, Cameron. I love frosty days like the one you’ve captured here. I like your composition, and I think your choice of a shallow depth of field works very well and enhances the feeling of the foggy, low-visibility conditions. The subtle color in the image is also very nice.

I love the tones in this image and I think the DOF worked well to capture the shallow, flat effect of fog.
