Frozen Fragments

Image(s)

Image Description

I had a few free hours on this day, so I walked to a nearby beach in Downtown Chicago. There, I found some great patterns in the ice along the shore of Lake Michigan. This section of crisis-crossed shards grabbed my attention right away. It is a small section shot up close to fill the frame.

Edited in Lightroom, with a slight color temperature adjustment to “cool” the ice and give it a cold blue feeling.

Todd, the photos on your website are amazing! This one isn’t too shabby either.

The cooler WB works well here, though the 1000 pix file renders quite small on my 3840 x 2400 screen. I’d love to see it bigger!

Thank you. I appreciate it. It seems NPN compressed me because the original upload was too big. I think I will try to repost it all together. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Make sure you save it @ 72 dpi.

Jim, I’m not sure this is true any longer.

“As a general guideline, you want to have at least 72 PPI for web images, but 144 PPI is better for devices with Retina screens to ensure crisp, high-quality visuals.”

I have a retina display, and usually post at 144 DPI.

This is interesting. Thank you for posting. I have so many questions, between posting for social media, my personal website, NPN (or image critique in general), there are so many options.

Hi Todd - there is lots of neat stuff on this site, and lots to explore.
This will help a lot about the basics etc : FAQ / Guidelines
Then, if you have other questions, etc - ask away!
Gald you’re herre…

This is good to know! I had accidently saved a file at 240 dpi and couldn’t figure out why it kept posting much smaller. Once I saved it at 72 dpi it went fine.

I’ll give 144 dpi a try.

Todd, this is a good look at the details of these ice crystals. You’ve got eough dof to show them all sharply. My personal taste is in a view like this is to reduce the blue, as I feel like the ice crystals do a good job of looking cold…but that’s personal.
