Description

We have a number of hibiscus in our garden and this one resides in a pot on the patio. In the winter a hard freeze seemed to kill it but we just left it alone and lo and behold it started to grow back. It’s now blooming like crazy and seems to be enjoying its new lease on life.>=))>

Specific Feedback

The only bad thing about this pot is that it’s close to a brick wall and much too heavy to move. I tamed down some of the mortar lines but there are still some brick hints. :+1: :-1:?

I wouldn’t have known the BG was bricks – no worry about it! The flower is gorgeous, the BG supportive and interesting, and the DOF perfect. The stamen deserves all the attention!

I wouldn’t mind having a little more room at the bottom, but that’s a very small point.

Wonderful image of a great specimen, Bill. I would have missed the brick if you hadn’t mentioned it, that’r how insignificant it is to the image. I do agree with @Diane_Miller that a little more room at the bottom would be nice, but certainly not a deal breaker for this wonderful image.

The points above struck me too (didn’t notice brick/a little bit more room if possible). But it’s a great shot of a flower I love. I like very much the angle you chose as it’s hard to get stamen and any petals in top focus. Maybe blur the small leaf top left?

The brick background works for me, Bill. Lovely image. If you don’t like bricks you can slip something in front of the wall.

Dennis: You’re obviously not taking into account my basic laziness.  I do have lots of scrap mat board that could be put to better use than taking up space and attracting dust. Thanks for the reminder. >=))>

You could try to tape some large sheets of colored paper/cardboard or even some semi-transparent parchment paper for an artificial BG. Might save the back from heavy lifting! The mortar is not obvious, so your lens settings did a good job getting the OOF BG in line with what is optimal. A little more room on the bottom may help the comp, but not a dealbreaker. Lighting and flower are awesome…Jim
