Wonderful capture of these mosses and lichens. You’ve managed to include a variety of types and textures in one image. I like the diagonal composition and the inclusion of a little of the branch. Beautifully blurred dark background that serves to highlight the plants. I really like this one.

Delton,

Wow! What an arrangement of various mosses and lichen! Great use of the blurred BG to bring out the details in the lichen. Didi you know that Lichen are actually two different organisms living together symbiotically? Lichen are both a fungus and a bacteria, and are crucial in fixing nitrogen into the soil in forests. The fungus decomposes plant matter and the bacteria fix the nitrogen in the soil which is then taken up by trees and other plants. Very cool stuff.

Yourself and Chris: Thank you for you kind words. It is lots of fun milling thru the arboretum in the rainy season.

Sorry, Youssef. Spell corrector.

What a wonderful composition and stack! It’s not easy with such a small subject. The colors are gorgeous. I wonder if the brighter areas could be brought down a bit. A tiny bit more room on all sides could be nice but the tight composition works for such an energetic subject.

Thanks, Diane. This time of year I’m glad to see the rains coming, nurturing the mosses, lichens, fungi…

Youssef: There’s a wonderful book on fungi—Entangled Life—by Merlin Sheldrake. Lots of fun reading.

A very nice and interesting close up image of this cluster of lichen growth Delton. Good job on the focus stacking as everything looks sharp. Did you do any cropping? If so, it looks like a little more space on the top, bottom and left might help.
