Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The succulents continue to thrive in our garden and thought this pair of little beauties was worth a shot or 3, actually more than 30 altogether. We have a cold snap headed our way so Chrissy and I spent yesterday covering plants. This one is in a pot but much too heavy to move so we’re hoping it’s a little toughy and survives relatively unscathed. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Posted in macro because the flowers are just about the size of a dime. What do you think about the two unopened buds?

Bill, I have a similar succulent on my back, paved deck. They really are tough. We’re expecting 40C here in a couple of days so the idea of covering plants from the cold is quite odd for me.

I love the pair of flowers, perfectly placed in the frame. The flowers and the one bud make for a lop-sided triangel. Of course, your skill at stacking really shines. The colours are gorgeous..

The two buds; I like the full bud, not so much the bud on the edge. I reckon it could go??

Bill, this is top notch. The flowers really stand out against the soft greens of the stem. Reluctantly, I agree that the bud at the edge can go away. I do see a stacking artifact halo on the left side of the top flower petal. Bright/dark edges like that often do that in a stack. Those flowers are awesome.

Excellent detail and soft lighting shows off these flowers perfectly. The two flower buds are somewhat distracting to me, but I can live with their presence in the frame. I think reshooting with more DOF may not provide enough merit while compromising the softened features of the BG. So, leave the comp as presented and I would be happy with that decision too. Flowers are fantastic…Jim

Mark: Thanks for the heads up on the halo. I missed it initially. As an aside, I’m finding it easier to remove haloes using the remove tool instead of trying to clone. Is that your experience too? >=))>

I haven’t tried the remove tool…something for next time.

Lovely, and excellent job on the RP!

I have a few succulents but none of them has ever bloomed in winter, even in our relatively mild climate. The Daphne is just starting to bloom and I did a composition yesterday similar to this. I’ll try to come up with something worthy of posting in the next few days.

Bill, they are beautiful. Hard to imagine them as only the size of a dime. The way they are presented they could easily have been larger blooms. I hope they survive the cold.

Another beautiful succulent image, Bill and the repost did bring it up just a notch.

Beautiful, Bill. I can’t see a difference between the original and repost, but I’m sufficiently gobsmacked by the original that I didn’t look terribly closely for improvements. I like the solo act in another thread as well, but there is something about the twins here that make it special.
