Is the dark green background a distraction to the overall image? An dhow might I tone it down?

Heidi: Welcome to NPN and thanks for a fantastic first post. Wonderful comp and color palette. I like how you positioned the strong trunk in the frame and the tension it causes looking right to left. I will often flip a scene like this horizontally so that the flow is more left to right which seems to set better with us western cultures that read left to right. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more of your work and your comments on other’s images. >=))>
Hi Heidi,
First off welcome to NPN! This is a wonderful first post and a lovely autumn scene. The dark green BG does not bother me at all as it compliments the yellows of the stately chestnut beautifully. The light fog works very nicely as does the graceful limb streaching across the image. My only suggestion would be to clone out the white patch of sky in the URC as it does catch my eye a little. I hope to see more of your posts as well as your comments on other photographer’s work. I think you will find us to be a great group of like minded individuals so don’t be shy.
Hello Heidi,
I haven’t been with NPN for very long either.
I really like the photo. The tree is magnificent and well presented.
One improvement I have would be to make the areas below the conifers and above the path as unobtrusive as possible, so that you only look at the trees and not into the distance behind them.
Enjoy photography and NPN
Hello Heidi, and welcome to NPN!
You have picked a wonderful subject. This tree is so interesting to look at; the colors and the shapes of its branches create a lot of interest. I want to see more of the tree, and my eyes keep dropping down to the background, probably because it’s light back there. I wonder if there’s a crop that could bring the focus to the tree and exclude some of the background?
Lovely tree! Thank you for your post!
