Located in Washington State is a little town called Leavenworth. I always enjoy going there in the fall for some color and quiet moments. Early morning fog was lifting and a sunny day was in store.
Hi Judi,
I am really enjoying this beautiful scene. The light on the BG peak is flat out gorgeous and the light rising fog provides some lovely atmospherics and mood. The color palette of yellows, greens and blues work rather nicely and the river draws the viewer into the scene perfectly. Very nicely done. Good luck on your upcoming trip this year.
Judi, instead of saying it has a “painterly” look I’ll substitute with that it has a “Thomas Kincade” look to the scene. At least when I first saw the thumbnail it was my first impression. A truly wonderful image…
Judi: What @Paul_Breitkreuz said. I’m also a railfan and especially a fan of the old Great Northern which pretty much put Leavenworth on the map so many years ago. I haven’t been back there in a long time but your image is a beautiful rendering of a beautiful scene. Most excellent. >=))>
Thank you to all! And thank you for your wonderful, uplifting comments. Leavenworth is always a favorite for fall and winter shooting. The fires this year are around there and devastating, and I hope all who are fighting the fires, and live there, are safe. I won’t be going this year, but hoping next works out. I appreciate all the kind comments. I highly recommend it as a place to go, usually 3rd week of Oct doesn’t disappoint.
This is truly gorgeous!! Definitely artistic. But I have some small nits. I feel a bit of tension with the bare treetops so clone to the edge of the frame. Do you have any more room at the top for a slightly looser crop? The same tension arises with the pine trunk so close to the right edge – that could be fixed with a very slight crop. The base of the bare trunk on the left touching the edge is the same situation. Is there a little more canvas there? If not, I would remove that trunk. It is a very lovely capture and I think working on these small but distracting details could do it justice. I had to have a closer look, and also added a but more room at the bottom and a vignette there. The tree on the left is too difficult to remove due to the complexity of the branches but I added a little canvas on the left and cloned some bushes to cover up the bottom and move it away from the edge. What do you think?
Judi the sunlit distant mountain makes a great, low-light autumn image into a great landscape shot, providing a sense of both scale and place. The mountain looks quite bright to my eye, however – I’ll bet it would still have the same impact a bit darker and compete less with the beautiful foreground.
