Gotcha!

I captured this shot just before the other shot of the Little Blue I submitted with his catch in his beak. Maybe this will help folks to identify what the prey is. Appreciate your views, comments and suggestions.

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

Canon 7D II, Canon 100-400 mm L lens on monopod and gimbal head. Settings were manual except ISO (auto), f8, 1/400, ISO 125, at 365 mm.

very nice behavioral capture. Love the prey being pulled from the water and the open beak. Realistic colors and exposure. I could see shooting this at ISO 400-640 to gain more shutter speed which may have frozen the end of the beak more. I don’t use auto ISO. A fine image.

I like that shot a lot. I never tire of seeing, and photographing herons. My only nit is the large, eye-pulling name/copyright at the bottom. Smaller, more muted color perhaps? Just me.

Good action shot of the heron. Good detail and the light on the heron is good. Like the colors and reflection of the water and the ripples.
