Great Blue Herons

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

One thing about becoming a birder and bird photographer, you learn to spot subtle movement or anomalies in the landscape. I first spotted the one on the right as a distant blob in the tree that seemed out of place. The one on the left was pretty obvious, though. They were on adjacent fir trees and eventually took off together.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Blue herons are fascinating birds and unlikely perchers. Having two of them in the same sight is a big chance. My only hint would be to open up the view on the left side of the second picture, but that is a small issue. Nice spotting.

HI Allen, nice pairings of images that work well together. Cool that you have them facing each other. I like the trees also as another point of interest. Nice sharpness and exposure.

I really like the way you came up with to present this, Allen. Excellent concept and it really works well.

Excellent presentation of 2 great herons ! I love the bird’s positions and the trees and geeneray.
The Blue BG is really cool but - from here - it seems to compete with the blue in the herons. Also, from here, the BG on the left is a slightly-different shade than the BG on the right, which matches the frame.
Maybe a slightly lighter blue would also work?
Very appealing as is, though - fine concept and presentation.
