The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Some more from the archives, 2014 this time. We’d stopped at a a state park and were walking around when we started encountering branching Great Horned Owlets. It made for a very pleasant evening after a horrible time getting our little trailer into the site (they’d put a steel post right were you needed your vehicle to be to back in).
Specific Feedback
These didn’t really need any updated processing techniques as they were taken at reasonable iso’s, but my processing skills have improved in the last ten years (at least I hope they have). I’m interested in which you like and why, if you can elucidate it.
Technical Details
All were taken with a Canon 7D, 300 mm f/4 + 1.4 TC. Shutter speeds varied from 1/125th to 1/200th, so I’m assuming I was on a tripod. Aperture was 5.6 for all of them. The first was taken in vertical orientation, the other two in landscape. All are minor crops.

Hi Dennis
All three are very cool. I think the bright sun light works in the first two photograph as it helps bring the viewer eyes to the Owl, but in the third I feel it starts to compete with the Owl. Nice work.
Peter
Very nice – all 3! I wonder if there is more overhead int he first to bring highlights down and shadows up, but possibly not. Same for highlights in the last one. Wonderful sharpness and detail on the bird! I like the last one best for the clean view of the owl. A quick mask in PS then a curves could give a slight boost to the birds.
Thanks @Peter_Morrissey and @Diane_Miller for your observation and comments. I’ve added revised versions of the first and third images at the top. Hopefully they represent improvements.
They do, to me !! Nice to see older images a acquire new life!
I didn’t see anything wrong with the original posts Dennis, but the reposts are a bit better. Nice looks from the owlets and nice silhouette in the first image especially with an interesting BG. Good job to pull out some detail in that one.
Hi Dennis, these images give me a sense of the excitement of seeing these magnificent birds unexpectedly while out on a walk. What a great find this must have been. I like the two reposts. We can especially see the owl better in repost of #1. I think the close up of the youngster is my fave - a great expression you caught.
Nice to see some images from the archives, @Dennis_Plank. All three are great but the two reposts really shine. Nice!
