Great-tailed Grackle

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I went down to our local lake this morning looking for bald eagles (no luck) but I did spot this male great-tailed grackle in the picnic area perched on a covered BBQ. This is the first one I’ve seen!

Specific Feedback

Cropping? Since it was all black subject matter I went ahead and converted it to B&W. Seems to work. Yeah?

Technical Details

Z9, 180-600 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, hand held, 1/1250th, f 9.0, 378mm, ISO 1250, cropped to 3690 x 2802

Nicely done, Dave. The black and white treatment and that plastic cover gives this the look of a statue.

Dave, the BW treatment works perfectly here, and you’ve pulled out some really nice detail on the bird.
Nice find!

Dave: BW works very well here and the pose is excellent.
