Description

Probably as close as I’ve ever gotten to one. I liked the pattern on the wings; probably a male not yet in breeding plumage.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Yeah I only ever see these in the distance - they come through on the river during migration, but they don’t stay and I’ve never gotten a photo. This is remarkable in its detail, although I do wish it was slightly lower in perspective. Would make those marvelous feather harder to see though, so you win. The calm blue of the water is a great and I can almost feel the movement there. Maybe bring the blacks in the reflection down a little bit? It feels a bit light there.

Gorgeous image of this bird, Allan. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one to know it. The plumage is beautiful.

Hi Allen. Nice catch with terrific detail and a nice reflection. Love seeing the yellow eye like this. Nicely composed even though a lower shooting angle would have been nice. Nice image.
