Description

Silverwood Lake in Tucson is a nice place for shorebirds. There were a number of coots enjoying the fruit that were falling out of what looked like a palm tree. This one grabbed this one and was a little bit in a hurry eating it, which was successful.

Specific Feedback

Did I need more DOF. Is the small twig distracting at his feet/

Technical Details

I must say first up, I have rarely seen a coot on land. So kudos there. And, I have never seen one eating palm fruit. Really cool behavioural image.

The twig and the other shape on the waters edge is a little distracting for me and I think it would be an easy fix to remove both. I do love seeing the birds feet.

DOF works OK for me.

Depth of field is fine, Dean. A very unusual action to see as we usually see them diving for whatever’s under water. I’d be tempted to bring the plumage down a bit, but I’m on a laptop and the tones change with screen angle, so take that with a barrel of salt.

Thank you the feedback it was helpful @glennie and @Dennis_Plank. I took your suggestions

Dean, I’ve also never seen a coot on land, nor eating a berry! an unusual catch, for sure.
I’m not on a laptop, and I agree that the breast plumage is bright, and some added contrast or other darkening would help. I’d also remove the stuff around the webbed feet, so they are in a clear view. DOF is fine from here.

Hi Dean, yes, enjoy seeing this unique image showing the fruit and the feet. Nice job on the repost. Those feet are something else.
