Harebell, Campanula rotundifolia & Repost

A common wildflower in our local prairies, but one I like because it will still be blooming in December. This one was taken after last night’s rain.

Repost with extra room on top and a trifle added to the left:

I used Topaz Detail to bring out fine detail in the flower and accentuate the drops. How does this appeal to you? Is it too grungy looking for a floral subject?

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

5DIII EF 180 f/3.5 macro, tripod and cable release, 13 images at f/5, 1/2500, iso 1000, manual exposure, manual focus,. Stacked in Helicon Focus and further processing in LR & PS CC. Flower detail enhanced with Topaz Detail 3. Background (which was a bit ugly due to moving grasses) smoothed out using the color picker and soft brush strokes at reduced opacity.

Nothing grungy about this floral image, to me anyway, Dennis. Love the color. And did a great job with details in the flower and the droplets. That background sure makes it stand out. Very nice.

Wow, what great detail - the water drops are so perfect! Doesn’t feel grungy at all.

Perfect, Dennis. The color combo works well, and the bokeh is gorgeous. Great job with the details using Topaz too.

Beautifully captured, Dennis - softly lit and so sharp in all the fine details. Good work on the background, which has a misty effect well suited to the after the rain feel. Wonder if there might be a little more room at the top for the large droplet there but would not want to spoil the balance of the flower in the frame. Lovely !!

Hi @Ian_Wolfenden. The top was a compromise. I really wanted to go a fair amount higher, but there was an ugly out of focus blob further up that didn’t look amenable to repair and below it was a series of large drops on two stems that overlapped, so this was the only spot I could find that didn’t intersect one. I should go back and see if I can do some careful cloning further up.

Hi Dennis,

I like the crisp features of this photo. A little more space for framing up at the top is all that this one needs. Well done…Jim

Dennis: A wonderful find and a superb capture and presentation. More room up top might be ideal but this still works for me very well as is. :+1: :+1:>=))>

Repost added immediately under the original with extra room on the top and a trifle added to the left for balance.

Thanks for the input!
