Hawker Sea Fury

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve been doing some work in the aviation archives and came across this one which has always been a favorite. Decided to let it out. Taken at an airshow in 2018. The smoke trails are from a different plane, but this guy would be capable of them. It is a British fighter just before jets came along.

Specific Feedback

All comments welcome! I left more room behind it because I love the curl of the smoke trail in the upper right, where whomever it was had just done some sort of hair-raising maneuver.

Technical Details

It has become detached from the raw file so I’m not sure what I did.

I Love it !!! I love Planes. Just Way to Cool.

Very nice shot of this plane doing its thing, Diane. I like the hint of blur on the propeller blades and I agree that the wacky smoke trail in the background adds to the image.

Diane,

Very cool. Perfect shutter speed capturing all 5 propeller bladed, nearly still.

Thanks, @Gill_Vanderlip, @Dennis_Plank and @Youssef_Ismail! There are not many engines with 5-bladed props so I’m happy it shows well.

I hate it when I stop a prop with a fast SS, but this was before today’s IS and I was likely handholding to follow the wild action. At high power, the tip of a prop can approach (or sometimes exceed) the speed of sound!

I was looking at this image and listening to “Sky King” this morning by Danny Gatton. Always loved planes and guitars since I was a kid. The prop is just fine.
