Hydra Revisited

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Since my last capture of this monster it has grown many more heads! It’s a gift that keeps on giving and there is now another stalk growing up as well but it’s only about 6-8 inches tall and hasn’t grown any “heads” yet.

Specific Feedback

The plane of focus was pretty shallow and I did get some single captures that were acceptably sharp but didn’t like the BG. It was a little breezy so I did have to clean up some artifacts but I’m fairly satisfied with the final result.

This is perfect - I even like the webs! (generally not a fan of webs)
Tack-sharp detail, great colours, and very complimentary BG.
By the way, is Patricia Brundage still around? I remember her exquisite floral images.

Definitely a Hydra! And a well-photographed one – what an amazing and exquisite thing with so much to explore. I love the BG – just the right amount of detail and contrast with lovely colors. The stack looks perfect to me. There is one slightly soft overlap on the edge of bottom leaf that grows from the stem. Tiny, tiny detail not worth even mentioning, so I won’t. :upside_down_face:

I’m hoping we get to watch this bloom!! (Maybe catch one of your pet dragonflies on it?)

I like this a lot – great colour and detail in the plant and a very soothing and complementary background. I’m glad you didn’t clone out the spider webs as they add a little bit more interest to the image.

This is very nice, Bill. Amazing that the spider webs came through intact as I often end up having to sacrifice them if there’s a breeze-just too much cleanup. The only thing I’d change in this image is to have just a tiny bit more of the stalk showing at the bottom. Somehow when something like htis is cut off right at the junction it feels awkward to me.
