Lotus Dreaming

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve been wanting a lotus plant for awhile. We have a small pond on our patio but we haven’t done anything with it. Took a trip to the Lowe’s Water Gardens a few days ago and the first thing I noticed was this blue dasher conveniently perching on a lotus bud. The light was off and on and I liked this soft sunlit view because of the wing shadow on the bud and the catch light on his eye. Now I have to lobby the master gardener to do some water gardening. Wish me luck.>=))>

Specific Feedback

f22 rendered the BG pad a little mottled, which I like more than a perfectly smooth view that I was getting with larger apertures.

Wow So SHARP. Amazing image !!!

This is really nice, Bill. I love the shadows of the wings on the lotus bud and it’s amazing how well the eye color pattern matches the background.

Fantastic image! Perfect perspective and detail, and the lotus bud is gorgeous. The mottled green BG is just detailed enough to provide interest. No nits at all.
Really exceptional image!!!

They don’t seem to pose for me on such a nice perch, Bill. I like this a lot. Wonderful details.

Wow – super capture!! Best of luck with your own setup, but keep working this one too! What a wonderful opportunity!

My only vague suggestion is my usual gradient burn from the bottom. I’d drag the edge to halfway up here – had to try it to see if I liked it.

If the colors look different, it didn’t have a profile and I assumed it was sRGB, which is now embedded here.

A corker! You are the dragonfly whisperer for sure. Other than what Diane did with the gradient, I can’t think of a single thing to improve. And you have a lotus plant, too, which will provide plenty more photographic possibilities. Wow.
