It does!! There is enough mysterious detail in the darks and the rim light is perfect!! For my taste there is a bit more empty space on the right than I’m used to, making the animal feel a bit crowded, but that it purely artist’s choice. Superb in any case!

Holy cow! This works a treat! There is enough outline to clearly see the animal.

My only thought would be a tiny reduction of the brighter light on the animals muzzle?

I’m not a wildlife photographer, and rarely do I get any animals in my photos, so I am not one to give an critical feedback, but this photo has great mystery in it. It gives the sense of night, but is probably in the day. The backlighting on the hyena’s hairs highlights the animal perfectly. Nice experiment, I think it works.

Hi @Diane_Miller
I’m slightly confused, you suggested

generally we feel crowded, when space is less. :upside_down_face:
Guess, some confusion as I highly respect your opinion.
Cheers !

My usual lack of clarity – I meant crowded into the left part of the image. But it’s probably better described as visual balance than crowding. Just my 2 cents in any regard! It’s a wonderful capture!

Jagdeep: The rim lighting makes this special and another small but important element is the subtle hint of the eye. Exceptionally well done IMO. >=))>

Jagdeep,
This is simply incredible. Yes it works and adds a ton of mystery to the image and the subject. You nailed it! I agree with @Diane_Miller about needing just a little more room behind the animal but really, just a smidgen, and I do mean a smidgen. Incredible image. I am working on some Alaskan bear images and I have several with back lighting but I never even considered this. I may have to try your technique on one of them. I would frame this one I like it so much.

Jagdeep,
I keep coming back to this image. I think what makes this image so good is that there is enough information for the viewer to see that its a Hyena but what really makes it great is that there is missing rim glow at the back end which makes the viewer have to try and puzzle it together. I love that you didn’t try and make the rim glow stand out any more than you did. It’s very subtle and very effective. Superb. One of my favorites of yours and that’s saying an awful lot. Well done!!

Thank you so much :folded_hands:

Jagdeep: it most certainly works as the rim light perfectly outlines the hyena and obviously implies a night scene. If you don’tgive yourself an EP, i will.

I second your motion Richard. This one deserves an EP.

Thanks @David_Haynes @Richard_Sandor :heart_exclamation:
Thanks for giving me an EP ! But it has absolutely no value, if I give it to myself.

I’ve been away for awhile and just saw this! Love it! The lighting just draws you in!!!
