Hi Peter, nice catch for the both of you. I think these night herons are quite photogenic. I’ve observed them taking off the claws also. I really like behavioral images such as this - good job on showing the feeding behavior. The bird is slightly angled away from us but we still get a good look at eye, bird, and prey.

Peter - a nice sharp heron and crab, and a great red eye. A CPL would have worked wonders here, but - lacking one - the BG is a little distracting and could be toned down so it doesn’t compete with this neat heron - one of my favorites.

A cool catch for you, Peter. The background is unfortunate as tide flats usually are, but you caught some great behavior. Did the Night Heron find some place to wash that thing off? The sauce doesn’t look any too tasty.

Hi Allen, Sandy & Dennis
Thank you for your comments. Here is a repost with the highlights, saturation and some of the blue taken out of the mud flats.
Peter

Good capture of the heron feeding. It’s easy to ascribe human emotions to animals and this guy looks concerned about the pinchers.

Hi Allen
Thank you for the comment, the eye contact was the sell point in this photograph.
