Nice pose, Peter, and the snow adds a lot to the perch. Maybe raise the shadows a bit on the face. I think this is a Dark-eyed Junco.

Oooh what a calendar candidate! 2nd vote for Dark-eyed Junco. They are so cute with their hopping antics. Definitely a feeder favorite.

Hi Peter. I concur that this is a dark-eyed junco. Nice sharpness and the bird is placed in the right spot for a good comp. The color pattern is unusual and this might be a partially leucistic individual. …Jim

Hi Allen, Kristen & Jim
Thank you for the ID and comments.
Peter

Definitely a Dark-eyed Junco, Peter. Given the mottled light, the coloration is well within the range of what we see out here. There a bunch of subspecies of this with significant differences in coloration. The common name for these in your area used to be “snow birds” because they breed further north and winter in your balmy climate.

Hi Dennis
That information was every helpful. Thank you.
