Ibis Race + Redo B&W with red

ReDo

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Port Royal Rookery - The Ibis come in about 3:30 pm and assemble on the shore of the swamp.
A Great Blue came in, and about 50 Ibis took off immediately.

Specific Feedback

This was a quick grab, and my Lumix S5 has a very slow auto-focus.
Ideas on improvement?
thanks
Steve

Hi Steve, this strikes me as an interesting type of abstract image with all the different wing positions and whole/partial birds across the frame. This works for that context I think.
Having the light at your back and more evenly on the birds would yield a more traditional composition and the play of light would be much different.
I think both approaches could be effective.

A very unconventional composition, but I like it a lot, Steve. It really works to convey the mob feel of all these birds on the move.

@Dennis_Plank
I liked your B&W and selected color trick you suggested on the Black Swan.
So I tried it with the racing Ibis
What do you think? I find the blacks and whites are both cleaner.
Cool
Steve

I like the b&w version, Steve, but the background was pretty monochrome already so it didn’t have a huge impact for me. Still it’s a nice variation.
