ICM Cattails & Rocks + REWORK

Rework:

Original:

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Trying something new - I’ve only done a little bit of ICM and was not happy with the results. Today I went out on shot only on manual and worked on ICM with cattails. I like the result here, these are cattails with round stones in a pond in Fort Collins.

Specific Feedback

New to this - how is the processing? Any guidance welcome, I’m trying to get a feel for ICM. I’d like this to look dreamy.

Technical Details

Fuji X-H2S, f/8, 1/8s, ISO 160, 520mm, handheld, 150-600mm lens

Debbie, I think you did well with the background foliage. The soft white areas don’t work for me. They lack the lines and shapes of the background foliage so they don’t really offer the viewer anything to look at. I think you’d do better with a different subject.

I like the flow of the cattails, Debbie and the rocks add an interesting twist to it. The whites on the right side seem to draw my eye and hold it, so you might consider bringing them down to the level of those on the left.

@Dennis_Plank I burned the bright whites on the right a bit.

Is this ICM image worth the time? I thought it looked like misty fog, but maybe not…

I have some others - should I post in new image critique requests?

The toning down of the whites is subtle, but I like the result, Debbie. It does have something of the look of fog, which is one of my favorite conditions for photography. If you have others you’d like looked at, certainly post them. If they’re all quite similar, you could put them all in one post.

@Dennis_Plank Thanks - I’ll make a post with a few of the others that are related. I found this to be a really fun thing to practice and very satisfying.
