Icy Tendrils

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

As the ice in my water feature melted it created many interesting shapes that were thin enough to show birefringence. This is one small area where I could see the shape changes on a return visit minutes later. The dark area is the flowing water, below the ice layer.

Specific Feedback

For me, this is a photo of the mix of shapes and the colors, with both playing a nearly equal role.

Technical Details

R5, 180 mm macro, 1/13 s, f/10, iso 800, tripod and polarizer. A 40 shot stack.

I love the shapes of the ice in this one even without the rainbows, Mark. There are a couple of chopped off “bays” along the top and the “lake” in the upper right that’s chopped off on the right edge that my mind would like to complete, but you have to put the edges somewhere and I doubt there was anyplace to do so without chopping off something.

Wonderful shapes and colors, Mark. I really have been enjoying your ice shots.

Mark: You could make a pretty compelling book with your ice images. Mesmerizing color and capture of a never to be repeated phenomenon. >=))>

The jagged prismatic ice tendrils on the top and extending down the RH side of the frame make this an ideal, and pleasing comp to the eye. I like this one as presented…Jim

I love this composition, Mark. I love how the ice circles from the left, top, and right. The colors work very well with this photo.
