The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
A two day break in our cold weather had the ice on my water garden melting. That let me explore Birefringence in the edges. This view has been rotated 180 degrees.
Specific Feedback
The change in structure as the ice gets thicker (towards the bottom) has me wondering about a modest crop, which I’ve included.
Technical Details
R5, 180 mm macro, 1/80 s, f/10, iso 3200, tripod and polarizer. A 40 shot stack.

Another really neat image of this phenomenon, Mark. I agree that the crop works a little better. The area you removed didn’t have the punch of the rest.
Another fascinating image, with such beautiful colors and so many things to see. The title is perfect. Original or cropped? Cropped. The LRC in the original draws attention away from the main subject, and I agree it has more “punch”.
This is another really interesting capture of ice, Mark. You are the “Ice Man” for sure. I love the colors in it as well as the interesting shapes. I started making out heads and faces of animals in it. I think the crop version is best, but I would be thrilled with either.
Cropped version for me too, as it draws attention more to the head of that, er, grumpy bull. It also shows off the beautiful patchwork better to my eye. Another winner for sure, Mark.
Mark, this ia nother truly mesmerizing image. I’m envious of your ice garden but not of the weather that allows it!
I admit I had to look up “birefringence” but then saw that it’s what I know as double refraction.
Amazing colours, shapes and the closer crop is perfect.!
Mark: I’m really late to this party but wanted to add my kudos. I’ll vote for the crop as well and give you a big for watching and observing this. Our little pond froze earlier this week but alas zero interesting colors or shapes. I’ll just have to be satisfied looking at your spectacular images. >=))>
