Description
When the hot springs at Mammoth move, the colorful formations dry up and turn various shades of grey. They often start to fall apart as the deposited rocks are not very hard. This is a view of where Mound Springs was many years ago. It has now moved “around the corner”, but remains one of the most colorful springs at Mammoth.
Specific Feedback
As I walked past, this section of the formation literally screamed at me to take it’s picture…lol

This is amazing Mark! My first thought was some kind of cave so thanks for the explanation. I love the earth tones and the complete lack of scale in this scene. It lets the imagination run wild as I take it all in. It would have screamed at me also. Beautifully done!
This is so cool Mark. I love the face in this one. I like the shapes, tones and the textures you’ve caught in the scream. The white flakes in the bottom of the mouth are a great accent, and I like the darker burnt tones at the bottom.
This is really neat and I like it a lot – it looks like the face of a goblin or a troll . I might consider cropping or cloning the very top left corner as the light there pulls my eyes too much.
Mark: Perhaps a bit late for Halloween but what a great find. I like that the scale is hard to tell and at first glance it did look like a massive cave on a cliff face. Terrific find and a fine capture. >=))>
