Description

Happy New Year everyone. Our dawn broke sunny and warm and there were two new hibiscus greeting the light. When it’s cool it takes them a lot longer to fully open but they also last longer. In the summer they open quickly and generally fade the same day. It was a little breezy so no stacking but I do think the single capture works well on the first two images. On the last I took one shot with the focus on the stigma ends of the hibiscus and one on the BG pentas. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the pentas. They are technically perennials but only in temperate climates. They will not survive a freeze so we almost always have to replace them in the spring. They are reliable butterfly and hummingbird attractors so we try to keep them updated. If they survive the winter the second year growth is usually pretty strong. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I personally like dappled early morning sun for a lot of flowers. I think it makes the image a bit more dynamic. Your thoughts?

Bill, I am jealous, you have fresh flowers in your garden to photograph on New Year’s Day! Everything is dead around here, and it is blustery and chilly so no photographing for me in the garden today. I really love all three shots probably equally.

Gorgeous, all!! Color me green, too! Winters here are generally dreary and we have enough killing frosts to wipe out all the interesting plants. (Gophers and deer get the rest.)

I would stop to photograph trash alongside the road in dappled early morning light!!! The loss of two trees has cost me my best morning light for birds.
