Powellswood Garden is near my house, and along with the cherry trees last week was this little guy.
I worry a bit that the BG leaves are distracting, but they are part of the story.
Fujifilm X-t5 w/ 60mm macro at a distance of about 8 inches. The center of the whorl was quite dark, but detail emerged nicely in Lightroom.
Nice capture of the unfurling (fiddlehead?). Since you mentioned the lower leaves, why do you think they might be distracting? Too bright? Too many?
I like the positioning and the detail.

Dick, this is a good look at this fiddlehead. The backlighting on the leaves looks good. The leaves behind tell the viewer that this is not a lone leaf. If you want them to get less attention, burning-in the brighter bits in the background would help.
