Ben, I am just enjoying this one. Simply gorgeous colors. It doesn’t look real. It looks like a painting. You used the bright light to good effect. There is a glow to the flowers and a happiness to this scene. It tells me that Spring is in the air and that it’s a glorious day to alive and be outside enjoying natures bounty. I love that you’ve incorporated that triangle of reds and greens in the URC and also the greens along the bottom. I think the balance is really good. keukenhof.nl
Hi Ben,
I love this! I am not used to seeing all these bold colors in your posts as your images are usually all about showcasing various woodland scenes in some amazing lighting conditions. I have to say that I am enjoying the implied motion you created with the diagonal colors of the tulips; especially that red triangle in the URC. No suggestions from me as this is beautifully done. I checked out the website keukenhof.nl and it certainly is a beautiful garden. I hope you have some more images for us from the gardens.
It does look more like a painting than a photograph. I think that’s because it looks flattened out with the 3 dimensional shading that you normally see in the real world. In my opinion the colors are a bit overwhelming but I don’t think naturalness is what you’re after. It’s more like a riot of opposing colors with all the energy they provide. I’m not sure about this suggestion but would a vignette bring the colors more into the center?
My first impression is that the colours and saturation are normal for tulips, which do provide a wonderful spectacle. Keukenhof manages to provide a greater density of tulip flowers compared to Floriad (with which I am familiar) which makes it even brighter. I like the small patch of green, upper rhs, being next to the red, a nice colour juxtaposition. I would like to try cropping the green at the bottom of the photo as I find it a bit distracting from the yellow and red flowers. A really nice photo.
I’d say WOW! POW! Bold and beautiful! The light and vibrance go hand in hand and I love that you’ve isolated this condensed scene of tulips. Just beautiful.
I think someone mentioned already, but one suggestion might be a little vignetting - not too much, but enough to “encircle” the image to keep the viewer in the frame. Which might be good since there isn’t really a single focal point or anchor.
The only tiniest of nitpicks would be to clone out the tip of the tulip that is breaching the bottom edge, just right of center. Very minor though.
This almost doesn’t look real! Could be a painting of course. Beautifully seen and composed
