Specific Feedback
The second (wide) version has some negative space I’m missing in the narrower crop. However, it also has that large bright area above the mountain which might be a distraction.
Would appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Tom love the flecks of light painting those trees and the near blackout darkness just behind where the light doesn’t touch. To be honest I think I would come away from the reflection of the sky altogether crop it to a square image such that the sunlit trees form a circular pattern inside that nearly black square crop. It would I think create a lovely and quizzical semi abstract.
Oh what a gorgeous light
Given the choice between the two I would go with te second one, it’s a perfect mirror and more balanced, still I would add some more emphasis to the tree and trees reflection, maybe with a vignette.
My first thinking was a bit like @Ian_Cameron said, a square crop with that gorgeous round pattern. To create a minimalist geometric image.
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers
@Ian_Cameron @João_Ferrão thank you guys.
I did consider the square crop as you suggested. I think too it works nicely and I can totally understand why you would prefer that.
The reason I did not go with it in the final image was that I feel the dark space is less than I’d like, esp. around the reflection (and when enough black space is left - there will be some bright part of the sky’s reflection on the BRC).
I’ll give that a second consideration, thanks again!
Thank you for that too @João_Ferrão !
