Description
Last Tuesday was possibly the last chance to try for Feather Moss, as it needs a few days of rain to unfurl from its ugly dormant state. But I got sidetracked by this little piece of Lace Lichen and didn’t do more with the moss. The round things are spore bodies – no idea what the correct name would be.
Diane: A really cool mini-forest with so much intricate detail to explore. You have a real nose for these tiny scenes and a knack for capturing them in a compelling way. .>=))>
Diane, this is a nice “mini-forest” as @Bill_Fach put it. Lots to feast the eyes on in this image. Well seen and captured. I can’t think of anything that could improve it.
Wow! Echo @Bill_Fach . You certainly have the required eyes to capture these mini landscapes. The colours and shapes of the mosses and fungi are gorgeous.
Have you taken the image insitu? I would be tempted to gently trowel them out and place them somewhere accessible.
Diane, the details look great and the Feather Moss is special. The mottling in the oof background is something that I see regularly in stacks when the lighting on the background changes during the course of shooting.
Thanks, @glennie and @Mark_Seaver! Normally it wouldn’t be easy to carry off a piece of this stuff as it’s firmly attached to the thick bark of large old oaks. But after lugging around the tripod and trying to find a good composition in several likely patches of the stuff and rejecting each, I spied this piece on the ground on a fallen piece of a rotting branch. (After three major fires in the last 150 years, and several serious droughts, the trees around here are not well.) I carried it to the house and put it on an outdoor table under an overhang for good light, and good thing I did as it suddenly started raining like the proverbial cow and the flat rock.
I propped up a piece of black construction paper for the BG. That’s where the mottling and the bluish color came from.
I love it and the way you handled the background. I haven’t ever used a technique like that, but I see how beneficial it can be. Wonderful textures and colors here. Quite an intricate tiny landscape. I spied some moss by the patio the other day with fresh sporophytes…love moss so much. Nicely done.
Thanks, @Kris_Smith – I love finding these mini-landscapes! Hope to see some of your sprouting mosses soon – the spring climate up there should be favorable!
