Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
This is another image from the recent trip to capital reef national park. When I got to this area of the wash we were walking along I immediately spotted this face of an agonizing lady. I knew I will convert it to black and white to amplify the mood I felt seeing her.
Specific Feedback
Any and all is welcome. I don’t often do black and white photography so any feedback can help.
Technical Details
Sony a7c 70-300 lens, iso 100 f/11 1/60 sec. I exacggerated the tonal seperation in lightroom to make the face more visible.

An intriguing rock formation, Tamar. I’ll have to admit that the lady didn’t jump out at me at once, but that kind of thing is often in the eye of the beholder. I have an ogre rock from earlier this year and my wife just doesn’t see it. I’m far from a B&W expert, but the tonality of this image works well for my taste with lots of separation. A very cool find and well presented.
Tamar, I see a native woman carrying a baby in this rock, if it’s moving from right to left, or an woman in a hajib climbing a crevise, if it’s moving left to right and up… The figure stands out well. (It would be fun to see the color original to help understand how you “saw” this.)
Thank you both for your comments. I do enjoy hearing what other people see in these pictures as I know every person sees something else. Just because for me it is very clear what is presented, others don’t necessarily see it or see something completely different. I am attaching the raw file without any editing.
Tamar, your lady shows up clearly in the original, however, your processing really emphasizes her well.
