Leafage

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Last autumn I passed a tree with leaves still attached, and this leaf caught my eye. I liked how the shapes and colors interacted in nature’s irregular way.

Specific Feedback

I was able to do a stack and then later cut the scene down to what I felt was the most interesting abstract view. I tried all the orientations and finally plumped for this one with arrows pointing to the right. Do you prefer a different orientation?

Technical Details

OM1 + 60mm macro 1/200 f3.2 ISO 200 (no flash) - 9 shots stacked in Zerene

Darkened the paler brown parts with the adjustment brush in LR. General tonal treatments in LR and PS, with Denoise and some sharpening. Boosted contrast a little, but not to exaggerate the colors much. Final cropping.

Mike,

Great abstract. I thought it was a fern frond at first, but pleasantly surprised when it was not. I like your choice of the orientation. The color contrasts work very well in this photo.

Mike: Good on you for having the right conditions to get a stack. Marvelous patterns and capture of a unique and compelling subject.>=))>

Mike, this looks great. The shapes, colors and lines make a very dynamic view.
