Light Saber Alley

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This photo was taken in 2014 while attending the Boston Marathon. This was an unexpected find in a nearby building, the way the pillars were channeling light immediately caught my eye.

Specific Feedback

Adjustments were needed in LRC to bring out shadow detail and tone down the “light sabers.” Any and all feedback on this photo is apreciated!

This is very well seen, Jim, and I love the title. The processing looks good to me. I kind of wish the two people hadn’t been at the far end as they tend to interrupt the clean geometric nature of the image, but they’re far enough away that it’s not a major issue.

Very well seen and processed! The highlights and shadows feel fine to me. I assume you corrected lens distortion – a good idea, as the geometry needs to be squared up in a scene like this. It might need a tiny bit more pull out in the UL corner but close enough as is.

Jim, these type of scenes always leave me slightly empty, in a good way. I’d love to walk the entire walkway to see what is along the way and at the very end of course. The title is perfect. Sort of Star Wars sword beams for sure.
No thoughts for change from me.
btw: I see you said it was the 2014 Boston Marathon. The 2013 was the terrible bombing events as I recall.
Way in the back of my mind was the thought that your daughter was working at the hospital at that time where the victims were taken?
Not sure as my Hyperthymesia has a way of cross wiring in my old age.

Paul, that is correct!

In 2014 the Boston Athletic Association awarded “bibs” (running spots) to first responders of the 2013 bombing. Our daughter was working an ICU at Mass Gen where victims were taken. The following year (2014) our daughter and the other ICU nurses participated in the marathon, this photo was taken when we went to cheer them on. They became local celebrities and were featured in Boston area media, including CBS Boston;

These young nurses were (are) truly angels.

Oh yes! I used the lens correction profiles in LRC and did a little tweaking beyond that. Not perfect, but as good as I could get it.

Agreed! It was a pretty busy scene and this was as empty as the alley got while I had time to take the shot.

Thanks to all for looking!

Thank you, Jim. Reading the attached article restored my faith in what is left of my Hypermythesia.
At least regarding Emily’s incredible support to the victims at that time… :+1:
