Listen to the Wind

Image Description

This has to be my favorite tree in Rocky Mountain NP. I try to visit every time we go there but this shot from 2007 remains my #1 image. I haven’t been able to check on the old guy in some time. Our last trip to RMNP was in the late Spring of 2019 and Trail Ridge Road was still closed with snow and I couldn’t get up the road far enough to hike in. I do recall that it was blowing hard while I was there but I had the whole area all to myself as I asked him to tell me some tales of the tough life and conditions he had experienced over the years. If I ever go back I could probably spend the better part of a day examining all of his scars. I hope he is still there and standing defiant against the elements. >=))>

My processing skills are considerably better than when this was first shot and printed. Was able to bring out some shadow details especially. Any suggestions most welcome.

What a wonderful shot you’ve captured here Bill. I’m a sucker for these old growth gnarly trees, and this one is quite a specimen. As you describe, they really do tell a story, and this one has so much character. Where I live here in Central Oregon there are many weathered old Juniper trees that always get my attention.

A wonderful portrait of this wizened old spirit! I love the subdued colors. As a twofer, it would also be fantastic with a pen and ink treatment.

This is so lovely. The tree may be old and weathered but still flying beautifully in the wind. It looks so alive. I love how the rock and other tree are leaning in the same direction. It must be a very windy spot. I can see why you like to go back.

I Have No Words. This Image speaks for itself. Just AMAZING Bill. An Image you can See and Feel. !!!

Bill, this one is just super. This tree is really special in it’s structure overall. The wonderful backdrop just adds more pleasure to view… :+1: :+1: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Its a beautiful image. I love the way the tree seems to be pointing to the horizon.

Bill, the tree stands out well from it’s surroundings even as they add interest. I do wonder who went “thataway”…, since even its companion rock is pointing that way also.

What a wonderful landscape. The picture tells the story of the weathered wood.

Outstanding work. I like the use of space in the direction the tree is reaching and also the story of repetition depicted in the smaller, living tree in the background.

@MarcAdamus Thanks for the kind words; coming from you it means a lot. Hope to see some of your outstanding work soon and it’s really good to have you back in NPN. >=))>
