Image Description

After weeks of rain, my paddock comes alive with interesting little mushrooms. This one is Marasmius haematocephala or Pink Bonnets. I also found some lovely little bright orange ones that were very difficult to get any sort of a decent shot.

Glennie, Gorgeous little 'shrooms! I’ve never seen these…
Love your focus choice to make the central one sharp, and the others nicely blurred. That one bright one is a little distracting, though, so you might consider toning it down a bit.
Very compelling image!

Glenys, this is a great collection of colorful little mushrooms. Love the pink umbrellas! The bit of green lichen makes a fine color complement. Have you looked at a 4x5 crop (nearly centered)? That would put more focus on the sharper ones near the center but keep the going out of focus colors behind. Yes, a bit of burning-in on the nearly white bit would be good.

These are so cute, like little characters! The color palette is working well, the green moss and pink, and the background colors.

I agree with the other’s suggestions of toning the one bright one down a bit, it’s not the star. I support experimenting with a crop as well, to showcase your central in focus mushrooms. Plus the 4x5 aspect ratio can make it feel really portrait-y.
I might also just use a radial gradient in LR to bring exposure of the middle of the image up just a touch, not obviously, but just to bring a bit of attention to your stars in the middle of the stage. As long as they don’t lose their gorgeous color in the process!
So cute!

Thank you @SandyR-B , @Mark_Seaver and @JulieEdwardsViola for the suggestions.

A wonderful fairy forest!!! The shallow DOF gives it an air of magic and the crop puts it over the top! I’ve never seen mushrooms like this. Excellent job capturing and working it up!

Oh I love these kinds of scenes and Marasmius species in particular - they’re so wobbly on those slim little stipes. It’s wicked hard to frame and select the focus for these kinds of scenes and I think this works very well. You have some that are obviously your main subjects and very crisp, but the OOF echoes help us get an idea of the profusion of these little tremblers. The ones that fruit here are basically white and tan so it’s nice to see another color. Super crop on the second go round, very harmonious.

Glenys, the cropped version looks great. It shows the story well as it stays focused on the key features.

The re-cropped version is perfect!
Great work!

Glenys: I’m late to the party and I’ll be a contrarian preferring the original with the exception of the OOF bright cap behind the main subject. I like seeing the greater expanse of the group. Really cool find and nice captures. >=))>

Thanks everyone! @Bill_Fach, I am drawn to the bigger version only because it shows the expanse of the little forest. It’s not something you see everyday.

I’m late to this one, Glenys. Been rather busy lately and haven’t commented as much as I would like. I do love the colors, and the little “pink umbrella mushrooms” are just too cute. I like what you did with the rework.

Beautiful image. The composition of the crop works much better for me. I love macro close ups shot with a f2.8 lens…bokeh rocks!
